Advantages and Disadvantages of Buying Used Water Damage Equipment
Welcome back to the Water Damage Equipment blog. If you read last month’s article, you will no doubt remember we talked about the advantages and disadvantages of new water damage equipment. This month’s blog is going to look at the same but with used equipment.
Chances are you have heard on the radio advertisements about fabulous pre-owned cars. Pre-owned is a fancy way of saying used, and it is a ploy to get people to buy into the idea that pre-owned is somehow better and fancier. This, albeit tempting, is nothing more than a way to sell you a car.
That said, we at Water Damage Equipment want you to be aware of this and to exercise caution when looking into used equipment for your business. Here is this month’s blog on the advantages and disadvantages of used water damage equipment.
ADVANTAGES
- Cost – Often times the cost is much cheaper, up to 50 percent cheaper, than new equipment. For those getting started in the business, this can be a huge step in the right direction to get their business going.
- Learning curve – Used equipment often has an easier learning curve to using and understanding the intricacies of how to use correctly.
While it may seem insignificant, these advantages are certainly something to consider when looking for your equipment to start your business. That said, here are a few disadvantages.
- Warranty – Used equipment may not come with a factory warranty against damage or breaking. It is really going to be the buyer’s call to take a chance on used equipment.
- Tax benefit – Does used equipment come with a tax break like new equipment? It is something for your CPA or accountant to help you decide.
- Lifespan – Will the new equipment last? Good question, and this ties directly back into the warranty.
Ultimately, it is up to you, your business and your bookkeeping or accountant to determine if used equipment is right for you and for your business. We at Water Damage Equipment can help you make the best decision for you. Contact us, and let us help you get started in your new business.
